Bullet Ant Ritual

These rituals could be seen as cultural coping mechanisms for an evolutionary
need. Living in this forest means that getting attacked is a definite
possibility, so a strong tribe is required.

This ritual is a right of passage to become a man. Boys die--but those who
survive become men worthy of passing on their genes.

Makes me wonder, what are the cultural coping mechanisms in my own society?

Somehow this seems connected: Cyber Bullying Led to Teen's Suicide

Cultural Coping Mechanisms in Your Own Society:

(mostly anything people can die from;
but generally don't)

1.) Binge Drinking
2.) Bullying
3.) Peer Pressure
4.) (in some cases) Sexual Exploration

makes me very curious about the recent reaction of the Lawrence, MA public school system where a town over a teen girl took her own life because of bullying abuse so the Lawrence principal had the police visit his school and arrest the middle school bully (a tween girl) for terrorizing a classmate.

Basically not setting their tribe up for its members to take care of itself but setting them up to expect to be taken care of by authority.

Great if you want to have a dictatorship or police state but not if you want to have a free society full of independents.

It is a very republican/big business/monarch idea to say: We will take care of you, don't worry about it (and they are more than happy to be in charge)

While it is a democratic/progressive/radical idea to say: We are all on our own, together. (but lots of people are too afraid to be on their own)
